Effective restorations with your satisfaction in mind
Dental crowns and bridges are used to restore a patient’s health, function, and appearance by rebuilding tooth structures that are broken or decayed. By using dental restorations such as crowns or bridges, we are able to rebuild the tooth and restore the function and aesthetics and fit of the tooth that was previously lost. An inlay and onlay is a more conservative option than a crown as it requires less tooth structure to be removed.
It is an indirect restoration that will enhance the tooth and make it stronger and is more conservative than a crown as it doesn’t require the entire tooth to be reduced. The only thing that gets removed with the onlay and inlay is tooth structure that is damaged or decayed and requiring it to be rebuilt. I definitely do consider myself as a conservative dentist.
The purpose of dentistry is to conserve and preserve natural teeth for as long as possible. With inlays and onlays, we’re able to remove minimal tooth structure and enhance the function of the tooth without drilling too much and being able to preserve the natural tooth for as long as possible. I recommend inlays and onlays when a filling is insufficient as there’s too much tooth structure that is lost or decayed or broken.
However, it is more conservative than a crown because we don’t have to reduce as much tooth structure as needed. We’re able to rebuild the tooth structure by removing minimal amount of tooth and rebuilding it as well for the patients. We offer a multitude of options.
We’re able to be conservative and prevent drilling of teeth. At Gentle Smiles of Livonia, we use something called the minimally invasive option of cure dent where you’re able to apply a material in between the teeth to prevent cavities and reverse them so that you don’t require a filling down the line.
